I maintain that Afrikaans, the Dutch-descendent language of South Africa, is not terribly difficult to read if you get creative. “PRIVAAT” = Private, “EIENDOM” = dom is a state, so property— private property, easy enough.
“MAAK TO DIE HEK ASB. / DIERE!!” = I haven’t got a clue and my mind instantly fills with a popular, rural “No Trespassing” sign in some parts of the United States.
In reality it says “Private Property / Close the gate please / Animals!!” … its good to hike with people able to read Afrikaans signs, you walk with a lot less stress.
