The Rim of Africa Mountain Passage aims to establish and maintain a contiguous mountain trail traversing the length of the Cape Fold Mountains, from the Cederberg to the Outeniqua mountains, fostering experiences which support personal and cultural reconnection to nature. I am thankful for the opportunity to walk on the Rim of Africa and be part of the creation of the last section of the trail, and the Rim of Africa’s support has been vital to make this expedition possible.
The Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation Youth Center is a hub for young people in Masiphumelele, a township on the Cape Peninsula, and offers health clinic services, English and computer skills training, intramural sports, and after-school activities for young people. I will visit the youth center to talk about my experience and work with the youth center to lead outdoor trips into local hiking areas. The Rim of Africa Multimedia Trail Journal will also be built with their environmental education curriculum in mind, and shaped with feedback from both educators and youth.
